Note: God wants all people to be saved (Mk 16:15; 1Tim 2:4; 2Pt 3:9). Jesus is the Light of the World and was sent by God to save everyone, but some prefer the darkness. Those that believe in Jesus enter the light and gain understanding (Mt 3:16-21; Jn 8:12; Ps 51:6; Pr 2:6; Ja 1:5).
Note: Jesus promised the Helper, who is the Holy Spirit, to teach us all things (Jn 14:15-17, 25-26; 1Cor 2:10)
Note: In the People’s Bible Commentary: Luke, page 90, Victor H. Prange provides insight to the phrase “seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand”: To the disciples the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God is given; to others (nondisciples) everything will remain a parable, a riddle. People generally are charmed by the simplicity of the parables told by Jesus. Yet without the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, people will not understand. The parable becomes a form of God’s judgment upon listeners who refuse to really listen.
